Saltwater Disposal (SWD)
A saltwater disposal well is an approved disposal site for mineralized water collected as a byproduct of oil and gas production. Frequently, when oil or gas is extracted from the earth, it is not pure enough for distribution. The saltwater or produced water collected with the oil or gas is considered hazardous because of its high salt content, hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), or other compounds.
Hydra-Cell pumps inject the saltwater at high pressure into the well for safe and efficient disposal of the fluid. Its seal-less design means there is no packing to leak or replace. Since Hydra-Cell does not leak, it is the preferred and easier choice for oil and gas companies to meet the environmental regulations of the well site.
Waterflooding
Traditionally, only about 30% of an oil reservoir could be extracted; however, waterflooding (or water injection) enables an oil producer to extract more oil over a longer period of time. This is known as enhanced or secondary oil recovery. The reservoir can be onshore or offshore.
Waterflooding is when injection wells pump fluids into the reservoir to increase or maintain pressure (also known as voidage replacement) and force more oil toward the production wells. Produced water or seawater are often used as injection fluids, but they are usually contaminated with hydrocarbons and solids.
With its seal-less design and check valve orientation, Hydra-Cell can handle solids up to 800 microns in size and provide reliable, leak-free performance. Hydra-Cell pumps are also offered with a wide range of material choices to process fluids with hydrocarbons such as Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) or other contaminants.

Hydra-Cell Performance Advantages Compared to Other Types of Pumping Technologies
- Seal-less design means no packing to leak, replace, or adjust. There is less downtime, less environmental containment costs, and less annual maintenance compared to conventional plunger pumps.
- No mechanical seals to fail, leak, or replace.
- Can pump the full spectrum of low-to-high-viscosity fluids.
- Does not require the pumped fluid for lubrication.
- Accurate control of flow rate by varying pump speed over a wide range of discharge pressures and fluid viscosities.
- Handles sand or other solids up to 800 microns in size. No fine filtration is required.
- Can run dry indefinitely; the pump does not use the process fluid for lubrication.
- Higher volumetric efficiency than centrifugal pumps and gear pumps when pumping low-viscosity gas fluids.
- Wide range of materials available for the manifold, valves, and diaphragms if hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or other contaminants are present.
- Hydraulically balanced diaphragm design for long life.
- Patented diaphragm position control technology enables operation and protects the pump in case of a closed inlet due to abnormal or adverse conditions, or operational error.
- Rugged construction for long life with minimal maintenance.
- Compact vertical V-belt skid designs for a smaller installation footprint.
